so im in nicaragua. and this is the first time ive gotten to the computer. power was out all day today so i couldnt earlier. im gonna do that blog thing were You list everything You did cuz im sure some people want to know. if You really dont care just skip the next paragraph. also please forgive my spelling: this computer has spanish spell check (yeah, im enslaved to the machine)
we arrived last night at what was about 10 for us but 8 for nicaragua. we got to the church. unpacked and promptly went to sleep. i went up on the roof with stephen and micah for a while and looked at the city lit by dingy bulbs and caressed by the cool breeze (the only thing that is cool even at night). that was cool and ill talk about it later. next morning woke up with a sinking feeling of waking up in nicaragua. it was actually 6 but my body thought it was 9. so i hung around and ate candy till church started at 11 (quick ps, you ppl who skipped this paragraph come back in NOW cuz ima talk about food. the food is actually really good. they use tons of sugar and oil which is very unhealthy but tastes pretty dang good. and everything seems so much cheeper cuz it is in cordoba [exchange is about 19 cordoba to the dollar]. this also makes me eat and buy a lot more. the church owns a bakery [which just started selling ice cream too] so im getting foor AND supporting the local economy!!!). ok yes. church. it was hard because it was all in spanish and the electricity went out (see first paragraph) so the projector was down and we couldnt ever sing along with the songs. we did have Gabriel (one of the missionaries) to translate the sermon so we werent completely lost. the really cool thing was they had two baptisms today which and they were both men which is really awesome because most men in the culture dont come to church. they had a little pool set up in the back yard which the baptisms took place. again, everything was in spanish but You can still get it. and 2x speed cuz of time. we hung around after church and had lunch and stuff. finally got off our lazy butts and started putting together packets with soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste for the kids of the school (also run by the church). then went over to the school and hung the door (the old guys [; )] did it while micah, stephen, and i played soccer and got schooled by the kid that lived there and his 2 friends. they are REALLY good at soccer. theres a reason brazil is one of the best teams in the world). then hung out some more at dinner and wrote this. present.
back to more interesting things (namely my interpretation/opinion of things that have happend; after all, what is a blog than a place were people tell You things that have nothing to do with reality). coming from the airport to the church was really emotional/sad for me. i think i half exspected things to change from last year. they are still the same. all the drugs, prostetution, and poverty. last year Brian (another of the missionaries) said something that made a lot of sense of this country. he said they have all the same problems we have in america but they dont have the money to hide it. this is so true. when i was on the roof top last night it really came home to me. we are all part of humanity. although we are seperated by extremely different cultures, economics, and language, we still feel the same, experience the same things, and live out this crazy thing called life. we came connect of the most basic and richest of all levels because we are all humans and all share the human pain of sin. Dostoievski made a lot more sense to me then when he said we are guilty for the whole worlds sins. i still am far from getting it but i have got a little taste last night. it is incredibally sad coming back though. i struggle even more this time than last time with the question of what good am i doing and why i am here for so short amount of time when there is sooooooo much work to do. even beyond that, is there really any *work* we can do that will make everything better? it is so much more complicated than just building houses and starting schools although these things are extremely important and admirable goals. it is people that need to change and see the light of Christ, and people are never simple. i must go cuz i was supposed to be off 1/2 hr ago but i will try to write more in the future.
and because someone asked:

I'm sure you all are making a difference in peoples' lives, even though you may not realize it. Think, even over here in the US we make more of a difference in peoples' lives than we know just being ourselves. And yet you all you are over there helping these poor people who need it a lot more.
God Bless,
Emily
The work to be done is inside a person and God is starting with you. One person *CAN* make a difference in the world if it's what God chooses to do with your life. Be available to hear His voice calling you. He will be mighty through you.
you're a great son!
love you.
Yeh, it's definitely true. we in america have the money to cover up many problems in our society. I am excited for you guys, it's going to be an amazing trip.
